This is a wonderful opportunity to serve your community, interact with and offer companionship to homeless men and women, and provide basic - and potentially life-saving supplies to those who need them most. Volunteers must be 18+ and commit to at least one shift per month, approximately 3.5 hours per shift.

From Liz:

I went to the Inner Fraternity Council meeting this past Thursday and it went really well. They have my information so they will contact us if they have any events they'd like us to attend. Since the semester is dwindling down, I will attend their meeting again at the beginning of next semester to remind them. (By the way the fraternity men dress up pretty nicely)
In addition, while I was there I met a girl from Up 'Til Dawn who was promoting her event that I believe we would be interested in. She gave me a flier and its Veto Cancer for St. Jude Children's Hospital. The event takes place November 13th, 2012 in the LSC Ballroom 6-10pm. Teams of 5 will participate in team challenges will win a grand prize. You also receive a free t-shirt and dinner. These are considered community service hours as well.
On the flier she states, each team member has to raise $100 or bring in a minimum of 50 mailing addresses to send letters in order to solicit donations for St. Jude Children's Hospital.
I think this would be a great thing for us to get involved in. All the team building challenges will be great for us to bond with our friends more and also we will be helping a great cause. I will make a sign up sheet for next week but start thinking about it!

Membership:
Pledge test TONIGHT 11/5/12 at 7pm in the LSC food court!

Other important notes:
For those interested in running for semesterly positions, hours MUST be on ramlink by Sunday November 18th.  This is when semesterly position nominations will be held.  Activation is required and if not attended will be counted as an unexcused absence!

Meeting 10/28

Big brother chapter to UCCS.
We have been given the opportunity to be a "big brother" chapter for UCCS. December 1st they will be holding an initiation ceremony and as a big brother chapter, we will need at least 10 people to attend. We have decided that December 1st will work best with our schedule, so if you are interested in attending in the springs please keep this date in your calendar.

APO shares
We will be voting for APO shares next week. We need enough members to be at meeting in order to vote so please BE AT MEETING!!
If you are interested in volunteering with Homeless Gear, please let Ryan Brenner know.
Distribution Events
We invite anyone who is interested to come and help us distribute gear and other critical items at one of our two monthly distribution events.

Homeless Families and Children Distribution: This event runs from 9 AM to 12 noon at the Murphy Center of Hope located at 242 Conifer Street in Fort Collins on December 8.
Since we serve as many as 400+ homeless and near homeless children and their families at this event we need volunteers to sign up for “shifts” (8:30 AM to 10:00 AM10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon and clean up from 12:00 to 1:00).  This will enable us to plan appropriately and also make the volunteer experience as meaningful as possible for you.  Of course you can work multiple shifts if you would like.  Please know that you can still just drop in if you didn’t get a chance to sign up.  We will never turn away volunteers.

Homeless Adult Distribution:  This event is held on November 15 from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM at the Murphy Center For Hope located at 242 Conifer Street in Fort Collins (corner of Conifer and Blue Spruce).

Sam’s Club Collection
Homeless Gear is looking for volunteers to help at our monthly Sam’s Club BBQ and Collection Event.  Events are held on Saturday November 3 and December 1.  We need volunteers to help cook, handle food, collect money, handout flyers and thank donors.  There are two shifts:  10:30 am – 1:30 pm and 1:30 – 4:30 pm.
Sorting
Homeless Gear is looking for volunteers to help sort its donations of outdoor gear, clothing, household items, hygiene supplies and first aid items at the Sister Mary Alice Murphy Center for Hope in Fort Collins, Colorado. Come once and/or sign up for a regular shift! All ages accepted. Large groups welcome!

PR:
The only available time to build the float is on Thursday-Nick needs his committee to really help him out, so help make posters like APO loves CSU. The theme is Go for the Green and Gold. Our float is going to be AWESOME (horse included, woohoo) There are spots for 25 people to be in the parade after the committee. Please wear APO letters, pledges will be given shirts to wear. We have the chance to win a cool trophy AND be on the news, so please represent APO well. On that note, let's take it easy on the candy tossing, there are innocent children and lives at stake!
Pledges: Please be signed up on Ramlink BY NEXT WEEK.

The alumni picnic will be held this Sunday at Rolland Park at 2pm. Please sign up to bring sides or desserts with Kate, it is much appreciated!
Also! There directory is finished (oo-la-la). Pledges, I do not have photographs for you yet but please email me if you have a specific one you would like. If you are not listed in the directory, PLEASE LET ME KNOW! It does not take long to add your beautiful face in there. Here is the link: https://sites.google.com/site/xialphaphiomega/  I will add this link with the minutes each week for contacts and references.
